Tips for the weather information

At the bottom of this page you will find various links to weather information sites. Of course, the numerous smartphone apps and weather service providers on the internet provide useful predictions, such as the two shown here. In particular, we recommend to our students: do not focus only on the obviously "beautiful" days with bright sunshine. When the sky is overcast, you can often find ideal training conditions in calm air and a less crowded airfield.

Flight weather forecasts

 The German Weather Service (DWD) offers a comprehensive range of aviation weather information and aviation forecasting products with its self-payer self-referencing system "pc_met Internet Service". Some products, such as the three-day forecast, are also available for free at www.dwd.de/luftsport

 Austro Control's aviation weather service, which mainly covers Austria, is free of charge for license holders, but requires the registration of the license. Part of this offer is also available without login under the name "Weather for all". Especially useful: the flight weather overview for the Northern Alps and the weather forecast for Austria for the next three days.

Weather Webcams

 The current weather in the Achen Valley, Achental, can be tracked through the webcams at the Schnappen and on the Kampenwand. Some nice webcams in the area can be found at Terra-HD. For a further weather overview the webcam overview maps of foto-webcam.eu as well as of feratel.com can be used.

 Foehn Wind Forecast

 Southern high winds bring us on the northern side of the Alps often unexpected "beautiful" weather. On the other hand, the occurring tail wind hinders our winch operation, due to the ground south Foehn. The occurrence of Foehn can be estimated on the basis of the pressure difference from Bolzano to Innsbruck; unfortunately, not always reaching through to the ground.
