To cross the Alps from north to south, while consuming less than 20 liters of petrol - how is that possible?

With a private pilot license and a modern motor glider!

From our airport in Unterwössen we have already made flights to the North Sea, Baltic States, Mallorca, Greece and Sicily. There are so many possibilities to discover, experience and learn. A pilot’s life just never gets boring! So how can I get a private pilot license and how difficult is it?

The prerequisite to be able to start the training is, in addition to the minimum age of 16 years, a medical examination. A regular healthy person can easily get the class 2 medical certificate. You will start the training with an instructor and as soon as both of you feel safe, you will fly your first solo. The solo flights are an integral part of the training. In addition to the safe operation and control of the aircraft in all situations, navigation plays an important role in the training. The flying of a route by map, compass and ground features, but also the methods of radio and satellite navigation are taught. Ideally, you should be able to train and learn the theoretical part during the winter months. The examined subjects are the following: air law, Human Performance, Meteorology, Communication (Aeronautical), Basics of flight, Operational Procedures, Flight Performance and Planning, aircraft general knowledge and Navigation. After passing the theory and radio communication exam, a flight with official examiner follows. If this last hurdle is overcome, you will obtain your private pilot license.

How does the training work?

It’s actually quite simple. You call us and make an appointment for the next flight lesson. In order to check your plane and prepare with your teacher, you should be there half an hour before the agreed time. After the flight there will be a debriefing with your teacher, then the plane will be refueled and - if necessary - cleaned.

At the beginning of your training, you should book two to three hours per week for a good learning progress.

Which aircraft can I fly with my private pilot license?

You can obtain your license on the motor glider, but after a small practical additional training, you can also fly four-seater motor aircrafts. Likewise, the private pilot license (PPL) can also be the entry into professional flying, because all the other licenses can be obtained on this basis.
